THE IDEA BEHIND A&B

Small everyday things.
One connected design.

What if your screen, snack and drink had a place of their own?

A&B Comfort explores that question through a wearable frame. The phone sits above the accessories, the snack tray occupies the lower left, and a separate cup holder sits to the right. The open neck support connects the arrangement through two articulated sides.

The project brings together a visual concept and a simplified, printable mechanical prototype. They share an idea, but serve different purposes: the images communicate the intended appearance; the printed parts let the fit, connections and assembly be investigated.

01 / GET TO KNOW THE DESIGN

One frame.
Four considered details.

The concept brings a magnetic phone mount, a padded neck support, a removable snack tray and a cup holder together. Explore each part of the same ivory-and-charcoal design below.

01 / PHONE & MAGNETIC MOUNT
TAKE A CLOSER LOOK

Choose a detail to explore.

Your screen, at the centre.

A black phone is shown in landscape orientation. A circular magnetic disc sits at the middle of the upper crossbar, while the side joints explore a changeable viewing angle.

  • Centred mount for a balanced visual layout.
  • Landscape phone shown as a styling example.
  • Phone, case and magnetic grip still need fit testing.

COMFORT, CONSIDERED DOWN TO THE DETAILS.

02 / A COHERENT DESIGN LANGUAGE

Soft where it rests.
Structured where it holds.

Ivory surfaces give the frame and attachments one continuous look. Charcoal padding and circular joints define the points of contact and movement. A teal tumbler adds a single accent.

04 / HOW THE CONCEPT COMES TOGETHER

A setup built
around your moment.

This is the intended setup sequence for a future tested version. It describes the design idea, rather than instructions for an approved finished product.

  1. 01

    Find the fit.

Check how the open neck support sits, with padding between the shell and the wearer.

  2. 02

    Set the view.

Explore the paired joints and the position of the central landscape phone mount.

  3. 03

    Choose the extras.

Add the tray and cup holder only after their connections and balance have been checked.

  4. 04

    Test the balance.

A physical prototype must establish comfort, stability and retention before loaded use.

05 / CONCEPT SPECIFICATION

THE PRINTABLE PROTOTYPE / MEASUREMENTS

From a picture
to individual parts.

These are the dimensions of the current simplified CAD prototype, not measurements taken from the concept image. Sizes are model bounding boxes before printing; actual prints depend on the printer, material and settings.

The two test pieces are not installed in the final assembly. The prototype is passive: padding, metal hardware and a magnetic insert are separate components. Electronics and massage motors are not included in the printable model.

CONNECTIONS / THE MECHANICAL IDEA

The details
between the parts.

A frame is more than its outline. Its pivots, fasteners and clearances determine whether the parts can be assembled and adjusted.

01

Paired friction pivots

Each side has a link from the neck support to the upper rail and another link continuing to the lower rail. Bolts clamp the joints; printed spacers separate adjacent pieces.

The current prototype relies on friction rather than a verified locking mechanism. Alternate positions need their own clearance and holding checks.

02

A seat for the magnet

The printed phone bracket provides a circular recess, not a printed magnet. Its 56 mm diameter, 2 mm deep pocket accommodates a separately chosen insert up to about 55 mm across.

The insert, adhesive, phone and case must work together. The CAD geometry alone cannot establish magnetic retention.

03

Separate accessory mounts

The tray and cup holder each attach to the lower crossbar with two M4 bolts. The phone bracket uses two more M4 bolts on the upper rail.

This makes the prototype modular for assembly and testing. It does not yet establish a tool-free removal system for a production version.

BUILD GUIDE / START SMALL

Test the fit.
Then build the frame.

A sensible prototype sequence begins with the smallest checks. Work on a table, establish the hardware fit, then assemble the unloaded frame before introducing test loads.

Print at 100% scale, in millimetres.

Do not scale the entire model to fix a tight screw hole. Adjust hole compensation in your slicer and reprint the test coupon.

01 · Print the two test pieces

Start with the hole coupon. Check the M4 hole, M5 hole and M5 nut slot without forcing the hardware. Then print the thin neck gauge and assess the opening with room for approximately 5–10 mm of removable padding. The gauge is only a fit check, not a load-bearing part.

02 · Prepare the main prints

A starting point is a 0.4 mm nozzle, 0.20 mm layers, five walls, six top and bottom layers and 40% infill. These are unverified prototype settings. Use your own filament temperature profile and inspect the sliced layers, particularly around horizontal bores and the phone bracket overhang.

Print four arm links, two crossbars and eight spacers, plus one neck shell, phone bracket, tray and cup holder. Remove supports and smooth contact edges before assembly.

03 · Assemble both sides symmetrically

Insert a standard M5 nut into each crossbar end slot. Attach a proximal link to each neck ear with an M5 × 30 mm bolt, a spacer, washers and a locknut. At each upper rail end, join the proximal and distal links using an M5 × 35 mm bolt and two spacers.

Join the distal links to the lower rail using M5 × 30 mm bolts and one spacer per side. Begin with the 100 mm pivot positions on both sides. Tighten evenly without crushing printed layers.

04 · Add the bracket and accessories

Attach the phone bracket to the upper rail, with its recess facing the wearer. Attach the tray to the lower left and the cup holder to the lower right. Each accessory uses two M4 × 35 mm bolts, nuts and washers.

Check full nut engagement and make sure no bolt end projects toward the wearer. Add padding after confirming the fit. The magnet and adhesive remain separate choices.

05 · Check an unloaded assembly first

Place the frame on a table and check joints, clearances and accessory alignment. Begin load testing with a dummy phone and an empty cup. A stable digital pose does not prove that printed friction joints will hold a real device or filled drink.

Wearable use requires physical fit, strength and retention checks. Use a separate food-safe insert for the prototype tray instead of placing food directly on the printed surface.

HARDWARE / BEYOND THE PRINT

The pieces
you add separately.

Printed parts form the structure. Metal fasteners, contact padding and an optional magnetic insert complete the prototype assembly. Confirm actual hardware thicknesses before tightening.

Frame fasteners

  • 4 × M5 × 30 mm bolts
  • 2 × M5 × 35 mm bolts
  • 4 × standard M5 hex nuts
  • 2 × M5 locknuts
  • 8 × M5 flat washers

Accessory fasteners

  • 6 × M4 × 35 mm bolts
  • 6 × M4 nuts
  • 12 × M4 flat washers
  • Two fasteners per attachment

Contact & phone mount

  • Removable soft padding
  • Approximately 5–10 mm padding allowance
  • Optional magnetic disc or ring
  • Insert: up to about Ø55 × 2 mm
  • Suitable adhesive, evaluated separately

DEVELOPMENT / WHERE WE ARE

A clear picture
of the progress.

The project has digital design work and a printable prototype model. Physical results are the next step—not something the renderings can demonstrate.

DIGITAL WORK COMPLETED

Shape & assembly

Nine exported designs were checked as closed, connected solids with consistent mesh orientation. The illustrated assembly pose was checked for overlapping printed parts.

The collision check excludes hardware, padding and magnets, and does not cover every adjustable pose.

NEXT: PHYSICAL PROTOTYPE

Print & fit

Print the coupon and gauge, check tolerances, inspect layer quality and assemble the unloaded structure. Record what fits, what moves and which details need revision.

No printer-specific G-code, slicer simulation or physical print result is presented here.

07 / GOOD QUESTIONS

A little more
clarity.

Details about the design, the pictures and the current stage of the project.

Is this a finished product I can buy?

A&B Comfort is currently a design concept. Stock, production, delivery dates and a working checkout have not been confirmed. The website does not accept orders or payments.

What configuration is shown in the pictures?

The pictured configuration has an ivory frame, charcoal padding and joints, a black landscape phone, an ivory snack tray and a teal tumbler. The phone and tumbler are illustrative accessories; final package contents are not yet decided.

Will my phone and case work with the mount?

The circular magnetic mount is a concept. The phone shown is an example, not a compatibility list. Phone size, case thickness, magnetic attachment and retention must be checked on a physical prototype. MagSafe certification or universal compatibility is not claimed.

Are the phone, tumbler and snacks included?

They illustrate the intended use. Final package contents have not been decided, so they should not be assumed to be included in a future product.

What can I adjust or remove?

The visual design explores articulated side joints and a removable snack tray. Actual adjustment limits, locking strength and the removal method still need to be established through physical testing.

Is the support comfortable, and how much can it hold?

Comfort, pressure on the wearer, movement, balance and load capacity have not yet been verified. The images cannot establish a safe load rating or guarantee a comfortable fit.

Does it include massage or charging?

This page presents the passive holder configuration shown in the images. Working massage, charging or other electronics have not been established for this configuration.

How is the 40% discount calculated?

The displayed concept price is CHF 40.00. A 40% reduction saves CHF 16.00, making the offer CHF 24.00. This is concept pricing, with no live purchasing facility or expiry date.

Are the prototype and the renderings identical?

No. The renderings communicate the visual concept. The printable model is a simplified passive mechanical interpretation intended for fit and assembly exploration. It does not reproduce every surface, hidden connection or electronic feature shown in earlier concept studies.

What does “normal size” mean for this prototype?

The CAD model uses a nominal 150 × 170 mm inner ellipse with an open front. That is a starting dimension, not a universal fit. Print the neck gauge first and allow space for the padding you intend to use.

How many parts do I need to print?

The assembly uses 18 pieces from seven designs: one shell, four links, two crossbars, one phone bracket, one tray, one cup holder and eight spacers. Print the hole coupon and neck gauge first as two additional test pieces.

Can the cup holder take any bottle or mug?

The current prototype has an 80 mm clear bore and approximately 61 mm internal depth. Check the actual diameter and shape of your container. A handle, tapered base, lid or unusual profile can affect the fit; these measurements do not establish retention or a safe filled weight.

Does the phone mount charge the phone?

No charging system is included in the current printable prototype. Its circular recess is a seat for a separate magnetic insert. A magnetic attachment should not be assumed to provide wireless charging.

Can I wash the tray or put it in a dishwasher?

A cleaning method has not been validated. Printed layer lines, the chosen filament and any coatings affect cleaning and food contact. Use a separate suitable food-safe insert for prototype trials; do not assume dishwasher compatibility.
